The Christmas Song Book Tag

I saw this post over at Adventures of a Bibliophile and thought it might be a fun tag to try.

“You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”: Name a villainous character you couldn’t help but love.

A few months ago I finished reading Crooked House by Agatha Christie and it was hard not to love the villain from that book.

“All I Want for Christmas is You”: Which book do you most hope to see under your Christmas tree?

I’m looking forward to hopefully finding The Big Book of Locked-Room Mysteries under there.

“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”: Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.

I would say Chiyo from Memoirs of a Geisha. She has to overcome a lot from a young age and eventually learns to love herself and who she is.

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town”: a) Which character do you think would be on the top of the naughty list? b) Which character do you think would be at the top of the nice list?

A. Definitely Assef from The Kite Runner. He was a terrible, nasty person.

B. There are so many. I think the top 3 would be Hassan (The Kite Runner) and Marie-Laure and Werner (All the Light We Cannot See).

“Frosty the Snowman”: Which book just melts your heart.

Definitely All the Light We Cannot See. That was just a sad book.

“Feliz Navidad”: Choose a book that takes place in a country other than your own.

Hmm…there were a few books this year that I read that were located throughout the world…If I had to pick one I would say Magpie Murders which is set in England.

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?

Hercule Poirot’s Christmas!

But not everyone is into holiday murders 😛 , so I would also say Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

“Sleigh Ride”: Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with (doesn’t have to be a love interest!)

I just finished reading The Secret Life of Bees and I would love to spend the holidays with the Boatwright sisters. I can just imagine strings of colorful Christmas lights strung around their pink house and the scent of honey everywhere.

“Baby it’s Cold Outside”: Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to warm yourself up in the cold?

*Shudders* even books I don’t like would be difficult to sacrifice to a fire because it’s a book. But if I absolutely had to I would say I wouldn’t shed many tears over Vonnegut’s Slapstick.

“Do You Hear What I Hear”: Which book do you think everyone should read?

Only one?! That’s tough. From my reading list this year I would say All the Light We Cannot See and Magpie Murders. Both of those are phenomenal books and everyone should take the time to read them.
